Information About Birth Control Various methods of birth control have been used for thousands of years. These days, there are plenty of safe as well as effective birth control methods that you can buy online. Every woman wants to find the birth control method that is best for her. Every woman has different needs and expectations when it comes to birth control methods and pills. For the most part, birth control pills work by preventing the release of an egg by the ovaries (ovulation). Most birth control pills are made up of two hormones called estrogen and progestin. For birth control pills to be effective, they usually need to be taken every day. Of course, as with most things in life, there are exceptions. Two exceptions to this rule are the Ortho Evra Patch and Plan B. The patch is not a pill and Plan B is an emergency birth control method, not something that you take every day. Like most types of prescription medicines, birth control pills do have certain side effects. Some of the more common side effects that are experienced with the use of birth control pills are weight gain, nausea, acne, headaches, breast tenderness, increased blood pressure, bloating and depression. However, not every woman who takes birth control pills or other pregnancy prevention medications will have these side effects. Some women end up trying several different types of birth control pills and methods before they find the type that is best for them. Birth control pills can also have some positive effects such as a reduction in cramping and a shortening of the number of days of bleeding during the menstrual period. Birth control pills have also been shown to help with PMS for some women. Birth control pills are fairly safe for most women. However, birth control pills do have some health risks that you should be made aware of. For example, if a woman is over 35 years of age and smokes or has certain medical conditions such as a history of blood clots or breast or endometrial cancer, doctors might advise against taking birth control pills. Birth control pills are a synthetic (fake) form of the hormones progesterone and estrogen. By maintaining more consistent hormone levels, birth control pills prevent ovulation. Without no peak in estrogen levels, the ovary doesn't get the signal to release an egg and that means that there will be no possibility for fertilization. With no fertilization there can be no pregnancy. Birth control pills also thicken the cervical mucus so that the sperm are not able to get to the egg. It also makes the lining of the uterus unreceptive to the implantation of a fertilized egg. The end result is the prevention of an unwanted pregnancy. |
